About the Girls Wave Puck

The Darien High School Girls Ice Hockey Team became a varsity sport in 2003 after three years as a club sport.   In 2009 the team won its first ever FCIAC and State Championships coached by Al Gurney.

Since then the program has taken it's place along side the other elite teams in the FCIAC and the StateConference.  Jamie Tropsa and Gray Weicker have now coached the team through seven  more FCIAC Championsips (2013, '14, '15, '16, '20, '23, '24)  and four additonal State Titles (2016, '17, '18 and '23) The program takes pride in representing DHS athletics at the level of excellence that so many teams perform.

It's impossible to thank everyone individually for all their help over the years. The team's success is a result of the vision and determination of the original players and coaches and the administration and parents who were able to get the team recognized as a Varsity sport during its formative years.

in more recent years the area youth hockey programs that feed into the high school teams have elevated the competitiveness of girls ice hockey inthe FCIAC and the State legues. The birth or the CT ICE CATS girls Ice Hockey travel program has played a huge part in feeding great players into the DHS Varsity team. Caitlin Barnes who took a 5-15 team and, in two short years, turned us into champions by believing in us and encouraging us to believe in ourselves.
